Luna Rossa Cycle is a group of five paintings I made in the Spring and Summer of 2007. I got really excited last Winter when the Tate was looking for a curator with the attributes: “authority, intellectual depth, visionary flair” and muscles (I added the muscles). I decided these attributes would be a fabulous thing to paint. The Italian challenge team in the America's Cup perfectly embodied what I was looking for, esp. after they beat the heck out of team BMW Oracle of the US. My imagination had a great time thinking about team Luna Rossa and all the adventures their AUTHORITY, INTELLECTUAL DEPTH, VISIONARY FLAIR & MUSCLES must get them into and out of.       -Elizabeth Latta 2007
